Hisingen, the island between the Göta älv and Nordre älv rivers, is Sweden's most expansive economic hub. The island has a rich history with traces from the Stone Age and memories of war.

The book gives a different picture of Hisingen than the one with heavy industry and socially disadvantaged neighborhoods. Here are hidden beautiful natural areas, a rich agricultural area, traces from the early Stone Age, strange rock paintings, medieval churches, remains from the many wars and from the closed shipyards. We get to know residential areas, shopping centers, schools and industries that carry an interesting contemporary history, as well as sports fields, swimming areas and public parks. That Jack the Ripper's third victim was from Hisingen, where a thousand-year-old linden tree grows, where the border between Sweden and Norway was drawn are examples of curiosities that we get to know.

Hisingen is an expansive and important hub for the whole of western Sweden in terms of economy, trade, education and manufacturing. Here there is extensive car production, advanced tech companies, small industries and a significant port. The authors show an island in constant change with beautiful nature and a diverse history. The book presents 101 places that are worth noting. Take the book with you on your own hikes and excursions. In addition to images and text, a map is included that makes it possible to follow in the authors' footsteps.

Mikael Svensson is a nature photographer and has previously published books about, among other things, Dalälven, Mölndalsån and Delsjön. This time he has explored Hisingen with his camera. Claes Olsson is a writer and hiking blogger and has lived and worked most of his life on Hisingen.
