Neither timber nor barges float on the Mölndalsån anymore, a river that in ancient times was of great importance, both as drinking water, a transport route and as a driving force for all the mills. Today, these functions have disappeared into the history books and drinking its water is not the first thing that comes to mind. When I returned home to Mölndal in the fall of 2004, I saw my childhood town with new eyes – and rediscovered the Mölndalsån.

Most people know the Mölndalsån as the calmly flowing river between Mölndal and Gothenburg, I did too until one day I studied the map and realized that the Mölndalsån had its source areas in eastern and western Nedsjön, in the area of Hindås, about thirty kilometers east of Mölndal. That was the start of my photo project.

When I then borrowed all the literature I could about what had happened along the river, I was hooked. Through the sharp and sometimes blurry eye of my camera, I wanted to let visitors follow the water's journey along the beautiful natural areas. Nature that you can easily become blind to when you pass by it every day.

The photos have resulted in a number of exhibitions and an appreciated slide show. Like every photographer, I dream of someday making a book. I realized that by making a pure photo book, I would miss out on half the river – the stories had to be included. Thus, freelance journalist Agneta Tjäder joined me on my journey and in the fall of 2007 we were proud to publish the book Mölndalsån – från källan till Drömmarnas kaj.
