Where does the Göta River actually begin??

In search of the source, we are taken on a 731-kilometer journey from the source in Härjedalen, through the Norwegian mountains and the forests of Värmland, across Lake Vänern, on towards Gothenburg and finally reaching the North Sea!

In the landscape, there are invisible boundaries that shape the fate of water droplets. A distance of just a few meters determines whether they become part of the Klarälven and Göta älv rivers or whether they instead flow towards the Bothnian Sea.

Not all water drops are blessed with the opportunity to make the entire journey from sparkling mountain stream to mighty river. Along the way, they can evaporate, quench the thirst of plants and animals, or take it easy and become groundwater for a while. But they are always part of the eternal water cycle.

With curious shorelines, the longest waterway in the Nordic region is depicted from the mountains to the big city. Experience the irresistibly beautiful nature, the historical significance of water and future challenges.
