Things move fast in the world of light. 300,000 kilometers per second, to be exact. Seven laps around the Earth in one second. At that speed, it takes a few seconds to make a book.
What we see are a few seconds of light's eternal play with surfaces, molecules and materials, so mundane and omnipresent that we need the frozen moments of photographs to absorb the beauty it constantly creates.
Life begins when the chlorophyll molecule in a green leaf captures a quantum of light and binds its energy in chemical form. So the sun's energy flows through intricate webs of plants, herbivores, predators and decomposers. The captured sunlight causes cells to divide, muscles to work, eyes to see.
Light – the beginning of everything.
